Wazzup Pilipinas!
"A lot of Filipinos like myself were looking forward to a third player to shake up the telco market and improve competition. Knowing that this third player is far from reality again is unfortunate.
The Philippine Competition Commission needs to look into these transactions carefully and responsibly.
The Philippine Competition Act provided the Commission with wide-ranging powers and the mandate to protect the public interest. This is their first test and definitely a defining moment for them." - Bam Aquino
The telcos are now boasting that they have access to 700 Mhz frequency that will soon change the way we do "Internet." I am surprised that they are brainwashing people with the promise of a better Internet when they already could do it in the first place even without this new acquisition. They are just not allowing us to experience the full potential by intentionally capping speeds and limiting our access.
However, the duopoly remains with the absence of a third player that was supposed to make the gameplay more competitive. I don't agree with just having two telcos manipulating us. The government should let other telcos join in, and investigate what really went on with the transactions among San Miguel Corporation, Globe Telecom, andPLDT Home / Smart Communications, Inc. . Don't let the greed continue.
