The Tides of Change: How SM Supermalls Just Redefined the Philippine Running Landscape

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The ground didn’t just shake this past weekend; it thundered. In a massive display of community, endurance, and empowerment, SM Supermalls solidified its status as the premier destination for the nation’s soaring running culture. A staggering 32,000 runners flooded the streets, transforming two of the country’s most iconic locations into vibrant arenas of human potential.

From the heart of Cebu to the scenic shores of Manila, the "maxed-out" race weekend proved that running in the Philippines has evolved from a solo pursuit into a powerful, collective movement.

Cebu’s Historic Surge: The 14th SM2SM Run

In the Queen City of the South, the SM2SM Run celebrated its 14th year by shattering expectations. A record-breaking 15,500 participants gathered at the starting line, making it one of the largest regional running events in history.

The race was more than a competition; it was a journey through the city’s heart, connecting two architectural landmarks:

The Route: Runners began their trek at the majestic SM Seaside City Cebu and pushed through to the finish at SM City Cebu.

The Atmosphere: The city was transformed into a high-energy celebration of fitness, where every stride resonated with community spirit.

The Grand Prize: The adrenaline didn't end at the finish line. In a nod to the future of mobility, lucky winner Desiree Villadolid walked away with a BYD Shark 6, a grand raffle prize highlighting the nation's shift toward electric vehicles.

A Movement in Motion: The Filipina CEO Circle Women’s Run PH

While Cebu was racing, the SM Mall of Asia was hosting a different kind of revolution. To honor International Women’s Day and Women’s Month, 16,500 runners took to the seaside roads for the 3rd annual Women’s Run PH.

This event served as a powerful testament to female strength and solidarity:

Empowerment in Numbers: An incredible 90% of the participants were women, showcasing a massive shift in the lifestyle and health priorities of Filipinas.

The Theme: Under the banner of "Strength, Grace, and Honor," thousands of women created an atmosphere of pure encouragement and shared achievement.

Growing Legacy: Co-presented by SM Supermalls and title-sponsored by the Filipina CEO Circle (FCC), the event has quickly become a national platform for women's health and empowerment.

The Architecture of an Active Lifestyle: SM Active Hub

The success of these massive events isn't a coincidence—it's by design. Through the SM Active Hub, SM Supermalls has built a comprehensive ecosystem that supports runners every day of the year, not just on race days.

"SM spaces have transformed into vibrant race venues where runners gather to compete, celebrate milestones, and connect."

The scale of this "Active" ecosystem is unprecedented:

24 malls equipped with dedicated, safe running paths.

Support for 45 active running clubs nationwide.

A legacy of 55 running events mounted to date.

Beyond the Finish Line: A Vision for the Future

SM Supermalls is evolving alongside the communities it serves. Whether it is pioneering the country’s largest electric vehicle charging network across 90 malls to promote cleaner mobility, or providing the "Active Hub" for fitness enthusiasts, the goal remains the same: creating "maxed-out" experiences.

As the 32,000 runners of this weekend return to their daily routines, they do so with more than just medals—they carry the spirit of a community that is moving forward, together, toward a healthier and more connected future.

The Heartland of Commerce: How SM and DTI are Rewriting the Filipino Entrepreneurial Story

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In the bustling corridors of SM Megamall, a profound transformation recently took place. For five days, from February 18–22, 2026, the DTI–Bagong Pilipinas National Trade Fair turned a premier retail destination into a vibrant stage for Filipino resilience, creativity, and economic ambition. This wasn't just a market; it was a shared public experience where the grassroots of the Philippines met the heart of the city.

From the Mountains to the Mall

The fair served as a bridge between remote heritage and urban opportunity. Indigenous artisans from Abra brought hand-embroidered, fashion-forward pieces to the capital, while weavers like Jezethel Bandiola of Bandiola's Piña Weaving in Aklan saw their market expand far beyond their hometowns.

For entrepreneurs like Elsie Balidiong of the Salngan Livelihood Multi-Purpose Cooperative in Iloilo, the impact is life-changing:

"Forty-two women in our barangay used to be unemployed. With the help of our cooperative and the DTI, we now have the chance to earn. Especially here at SM Supermalls—our bulk orders are increasing".

A Powerhouse Partnership for Scale

The collaboration between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and SM Supermalls is designed to be a full ecosystem for growth, rather than just a temporary space. By aligning SM’s massive infrastructure—including 89 malls nationwide—with national development programs, Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) gain unprecedented access to high-traffic urban spaces.

Key pillars of this partnership include:

Market Access: Moving MSMEs from local town sales to national visibility.

Professionalization: Providing environments where small businesses can test products and engage directly with institutional buyers.

Inclusive Growth: Strengthening value chains that specifically benefit indigenous and community-based enterprises.

More Than Retail: A Cultural Celebration

The 2026 fair featured a curated selection of locally made food, fashion, and lifestyle products, all emphasizing sustainable production and elevated design. It transformed everyday mall visits into meaningful interactions, allowing customers like Ezekiel Rosales and Michelle Milla to find "the best of the Philippines" in a highly accessible location.

DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque emphasized that this commitment from the private sector is what enables Filipino entrepreneurs to "contribute meaningfully to inclusive national development".

SM Supermalls continues to maximize the MSME experience by championing "business tribes" across different sectors through mentorship and visibility.
