The Pulse of Progress: SM City Caloocan Unveils a New Era of Public Service

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In a move that redefines the modern shopping mall as the heartbeat of the community, SM Supermalls, in partnership with the City Government of Caloocan, officially inaugurated the Government Service Express (GSE) at SM City Caloocan on March 25, 2026. This landmark opening marks a significant shift in how essential public services are delivered, transforming a routine mall visit into an empowering experience of efficiency and accessibility.

A Revolutionary One-Stop Hub

The GSE at SM City Caloocan is not merely an addition to the mall; it is the 18th full Government Service Express hub in the country. By housing a powerhouse of national and local agencies under one roof, the hub eliminates the traditional barriers of time and distance. Residents can now access critical services from:

Caloocan City LGU (including the Business Permit and Licensing Office)

Philippine National Police (PNP)

Professional Regulation Commission (PRC)

PhilHealth

Social Security System (SSS)

Pag-IBIG Fund

Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)

Empowering the Filipino Workforce

For the working and middle-income segments of Caloocan, the GSE represents a dramatic reclaiming of time. No longer must a jobseeker or a parent spend multiple days navigating city traffic to secure documents.

"By making essential services more accessible and experiences more seamless, we help our customers truly maximize their experience every time they visit our malls," shared Chris Martin D. Coquia, SM Regional Operations Head.

A Legacy of "All For You"

The inauguration was a star-studded assembly of public and private leaders, including Atty. Redemptor Peig, who delivered a message of partnership on behalf of Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo Malapitan. The event featured a formal blessing and ribbon-cutting ceremony, signaling the start of a "people-centered" era for the local community.

SM City Caloocan stands as the 51st SM mall to host government services, reinforcing a nationwide commitment to go "beyond retail". By integrating medical assistance and free services in select locations, the GSE serves as a modern-day community service hub that preserves the dignity and independence of every citizen.

Beyond Transactions: Building Futures

This initiative is a testament to the power of public-private collaboration. The GSE does more than facilitate paperwork; it empowers individuals to participate actively in the economy by streamlining the path to employment and business ownership.

At SM City Caloocan, the mission is clear: public service should work for everyone. In the "most loved mall" of the Philippines, the future of community support has officially arrived.

The Tide of Change: How SM Supermalls is Turning Trash into Lessons of Hope

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The battle for our oceans is often fought in silence, under the waves, but on the sun-drenched shores of the Philippines, a dramatic transformation is taking place. In a powerful celebration of World Water Day, SM Supermalls, through its corporate social responsibility arm SM Cares, launched a massive wave of coastal cleanup activities that went far beyond the simple act of picking up litter. This wasn't just a cleanup; it was a nationwide mobilization of the spirit of bayanihan, aimed at teaching a country to care for its most precious resource.

A Nationwide Frontline Against Pollution

Across the archipelago, from the northern reaches of La Union to the bustling coasts of Cebu, a unified front emerged. Seven participating malls across six strategic locations became the epicenters of environmental stewardship:

SM City La Union

SM City Urdaneta Central

SM City Tanza

SM City Daet

SM City Consolacion

SM Seaside City Cebu

SM J Mall

Volunteers descended upon the shorelines, not just as laborers, but as protectors of the marine ecosystems that sustain Filipino life.

Beyond the Bag: The Power of Education

The true drama of the day lay in the waste analysis and segregation. This year, SM Cares shifted the focus from the quantity of trash collected to the quality of education provided. Participants didn't just fill bags; they confronted the reality of modern consumption.

By carefully sorting materials—from ubiquitous plastic packaging to discarded beverage containers—communities received a hands-on lesson in the devastating impact of improperly managed waste. It was a visceral reminder that everyday actions, like responsible disposal and recycling, are the primary weapons in defending our oceans.

"Protecting our coastal and marine environments requires a more proactive, end-to-end approach with the cleanups starting with education, deepening awareness, and sustaining collective action."

— Engr. Liza Silerio, Vice President for Corporate Compliance and Program Director for Environment and Sustainability of SM Supermalls.

Part of a Greener Movement

These cleanups are not isolated events; they are critical skirmishes in a larger campaign for a Waste-Free Future. Aligned with the SM Green Movement, these initiatives represent a long-term commitment to environmental stewardship.

The goal is a permanent behavioral change that ripples through society, ensuring that the beauty of the Philippine coasts remains for generations to come.

The Call to Action

The tide is turning, but the work is far from over. SM Cares is calling on every Filipino to join this crusade. The calendar for change is already set:

June: World Oceans Day Cleanup Drives

September: International Coastal Cleanup activities

November: National Environmental Awareness Month initiatives

This is more than a corporate initiative—it is a collective mission "all for Filipinos, and all for the planet". Together, we can ensure that the only thing hitting our shores is the clean, blue tide of a sustainable future.

The Pinnacle of Excellence: SM Supermalls Triumphs as "Organization of the Year" at the 2026 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

In a sweeping display of industry dominance and visionary leadership, SM Supermalls has ascended to the highest peak of corporate recognition. At the prestigious 2026 Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards held in Macao, the retail giant was crowned Organization of the Year, solidifying its status as a benchmark for innovation and customer excellence across the region.

The victory was nothing short of a landslide. SM Supermalls captured a staggering 30 awards in total, amassing 52 award points through a collection of four Gold, 13 Silver, and 13 Bronze Stevies. This milestone marks the second time the company has claimed the top "Organization of the Year" honor, a testament to its relentless pursuit of a "maxed-out" experience for its millions of patrons.

A Mission Beyond Retail: Innovation with Purpose

Accepting the award on behalf of the company's delegations from both the Philippines and China, Executive Vice President for Marketing Joaquin L. San Agustin emphasized that the accolade belongs to the community.

“This is a testament to how we continue to evolve and innovate to deliver a truly maxed-out experience for our customers. We dedicate this to the millions of our customers back home, as well as to our tenant partners and employees who make these experiences possible”.

The 2026 triumph highlights SM's transformation from a traditional shopping destination into a dynamic hub of sustainability, social good, and cultural creativity.

The Pillars of a Regional Powerhouse

SM’s award-winning strategy is anchored in four transformative areas:

Environmental Stewardship: Through the SM Green Movement, the company has embedded sustainability into its core operations—utilizing solar-powered rooftops, spearheading international coastal cleanups, and championing water conservation.

Inclusive Communities: "Mall for All" isn't just a slogan; it's a practice. Programs like Movies for the Blind and nationwide job fairs ensure that mall experiences are accessible to everyone, regardless of physical ability or economic status.

Cultural Destinations: SM has turned the mall into a stage for local heritage. From Mindanao Art and Konnichiwa Japan to the world-class Philippine International Pyromusical Competition, the malls serve as vibrant cultural epicenters.

Nurturing the Next Generation: Family connection remains the heart of the SM experience. Platforms like the SM Super Spelling Bee and SM Little Stars provide stages for young talent to shine.

Redefining the Horizon: Expansion and Global Reach

The Stevie Awards also recognized SM's aggressive and thoughtful expansion. The 2025 openings of SM City Laoag and SM City La Union were highlighted for their ability to reflect local identity—most notably through La Union's unique "Mallseum".

This excellence extends far beyond Philippine shores. In China, SM’s portfolio continues to flourish with locally resonant campaigns. From the wellness-driven "Bean There, Beat That Stress!" in Jinjiang to the whimsical storytelling of "The Frog Prince" in Chengdu, SM China continues to deliver immersive, lifestyle-driven experiences.

A Legacy in Motion

Today, SM Supermalls stands as one of Southeast Asia’s largest developers, operating 90 malls in the Philippines and 9 in China. As it enters this new era, the "Organization of the Year" title serves as a powerful reminder that SM is no longer just a place to shop—it is an everyday destination designed around the passions and lives of the communities it serves.
