“Placebo Paintings” stems from the drawn parallelism about thoughts on the act of painting to the empty placebo drug that produces miraculous effects. Painting, itself, is empty in pragmatic functions, but this too, is its oxymoronic reflex, as its inability to define itself makes it viable for various audience to regard its importance.
“Placebo Paintings” recognizes the power of the commonly misunderstood medium, or the empty pursuit of painting, to change views, to take an effect on psyches, and for a momentary but reverberating moment, to pinch a nerve in what is our understood humanity that proves to be moving and inspirational.
Working on the medium of painting for the past two decades, the artist-personnel composing “Placebo Paintings” have wrought the meandering extensions and possibilities of the medium, in their own ways.
Opted strategies have included working on paintings under the microscope of conceptualism. The paintings are done from at least a degree removed stance that necessitates the consideration of the work from the point of view of the artist’s context. The detached aesthetic employed is characterized by wit and humour in its artistic hedonism bordering on the esoteric. The mix is weaved with a preference for the past, opening cracks that romantically filter nostalgic fragments that expand and enrich the hunting grounds of the pursuit.
