Wazzup Pilipinas!

The Philippine Center For Photojournalism (PCP) Professional Photojournalism workshop is back, the only comprehensive workshop given by working photojournalists. The five-day workshop tackles all the areas requisite in the practice of photojournalism in today’s media landscape. Participants will go thru an extensive workshop in areas such as composition, best practices at work, industry trends and a hands-on field exercise to be delivered and facilitated by today’s top photojournalists from different publications and agencies.

Instructors and mentors include: Alex Baluyut, freelance photographer and mentor in Masterclass in Documentary Photography (MCDP) and Asian Center for Journalism (ACFJ); Jimmy Domingo, freelance photographer and teacher at the Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle University; Luis Liwanag, freelance photographer and mentor in Wide Open Workshop; Gil Nartea, Malacañang Photo Bureau, Raymond Panaligan, freelance photographer, Fernando Sepe, photo editor of abs-cbnNEWS.com; Gigie Cruz-Sy, freelance photographer, Joe Torres, Editor of UCA News and Rem Zamora, photojournalist from abs-cbnNEWS.com.

The workshop has produced alumni who have made a career in photojournalism. Several participants went on to study the Diploma in Photojournalism course at the Ateneo’s Asian Center for Journalism. Other past participants went on to work in newspapers or NGOs. Majority of the workshop participants went back to their jobs armed with a better understanding of how photography and photojournalism can contribute to their places of work.

This year’s workshop will be held from November 6 to 10 at the TREES Guesthouse, UP Los Baños, Laguna.

Sinead O' Connor Writes Miley Cyrus an Open Letter

Wazzup Pilipinas!

Irish singer Sinead O' Connor, the singer who infamously ripped a photo of Pope John Paul II on National television (Saturday Night Live) calling the Church as the "real enemy", has an open letter for Miley Cyrus.

You really gotta love or hate her insanity, but there is no doubt that her songs are great and this one act of reaching out to the 20-year old singer Miley Cyrus deserves a praise.

Wrecking Ball's controversial video was inspired by Sinead O' Connor's song Nothing Compares 2 U. She said she was compelled to warn Cyrus that she is being "pimped" by the pop industry.

Now who among our Filipino singers would do the same act of goodness for the new young singers out there that already have the tendency to get lost in the wild side?..and further inspired to follow the crazy path of the former Disney teen star. Think skimpy outfits, too much revealing cleavage, skin-tight body hugging outfits, etc.

Below is the full text of O'Connor's blogpost:

Ulm: Method and Design Exhibit at the Yuchengco Museum

Wazzup Pilipinas!

The ulm: method and design | ulm school of design exhibition focuses on research into, and visualization of, the "Ulm Model," exploring its effects up to the present day. Using large-format photos, text panels, an illustrated synopsis, models, graphic works, draft designs, products, a "tower of books," and videos, it shows the great variety of intellectual approaches, procedures, and results of the school's work.

From its existence in 1953 through 1968, the Ulm School of Design was one of the most important contemporary design academies. It saw itself as an international institution for teaching, research, and development in the field of design. Students from many different countries were drawn to Ulm, attracted not only by the interdisciplinary aspects of the training program, but also by the names of founders and teachers. The special methodology used in Ulm is still internationally influential today in design teaching. Known as the "Ulm Model," it has helped define what it means to be a professional industrial designer.

Yuchengco Museum invites you to the exhibit Ulmer Modelle | Modelle Nach Ulm (Ulm: Method and Design | Ulm School of Design) on Wednesday, October 16, until November15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Yuchengco Museum located at the G/F RCBC Plaza, Corner Ayala & Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenues, Makati.

Stay tuned for updates on the October 16 Art Walk and other exhibit programs.
