The Moment to Tip the Future: Calling All Youth Changemakers for GTP 2026

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

The world stands at a critical juncture. As we navigate an era of unprecedented environmental challenges, the conversation is shifting from mere survival to fundamental transformation. This October, that conversation lands in Asia, and it is looking for the next generation of leaders to help steer the ship.

The Global Tipping Points (GTP) Conference 2026 is coming to Sunway University, Malaysia, from October 12 to 15, 2026. For the first time, this prestigious initiative brings together the sharpest minds in science, finance, policy, culture, and faith to explore "positive tipping points"—the fast, hopeful shifts that can accelerate systemic change for our planet and its people.

A Seat at the Global Table

The GTP 2026 organizing team is not just hosting a conference; they are actively building a legacy by sponsoring Youth Ambassadors to join the movement. This is a rare, high-impact opportunity for individuals aged 30 and under who are based in Malaysia or the broader Southeast Asian region.

The program is designed to move beyond passive attendance. It offers participants a comprehensive pathway to influence:

Global Governance Training: Ambassadors will participate in the acclaimed Global Health Governance as Public Service (GHGAPS) training programme throughout September. This immersive course teaches the intricacies of diplomacy, policy-making, and leadership in planetary health, preparing youth to hold their own alongside seasoned international experts.

Direct Engagement: As an Ambassador, you won't just be watching from the sidelines. You will build essential rapporteur and leadership skills, ensuring youth perspectives are woven into the very fabric of the conference’s outcomes.

Networking & Exposure: Rub shoulders with global leaders and peers, gain international exposure, and play a role in translating cutting-edge science into actionable pathways for a healthier planet.

Why This Matters

Unlike conventional conferences, GTP 2026 is constructed as a single, cumulative argument. Each plenary session inherits the outcomes of the one before it, evolving from shared scientific understanding to the finance, law, and stability required to make environmental transformation irreversible. By participating, you are helping to build the roadmap for cities and bioregions across Asia.

How to Join the Movement

The path to becoming a Youth Ambassador is intentionally streamlined—the organizers want to hear your voice, not read through endless interview nerves.

What you need to do:

Prepare: Create a short video introducing yourself and articulating your passion for creating real, tangible change.

Apply: Submit your application form along with your video.

Deadline: Ensure your application is in by August 26, 2026.

Selected ambassadors will have their travel and accommodation covered, receive a digital certificate, and yes—there is, of course, free lunch.

This is your moment to help "tip the future" in the right direction. If you are ready to move from theory to action, the Sunway Centre for Planetary Health is waiting to hear from you.

Are you ready to represent the future? Check out @globaltippingpoints2026 on Instagram for more updates and prepare your application today.

Unified 911 emergency response passes Habagat test with zero downtime, quick response to citizen calls

Wazzup Pilipinas!?

Citizens lauded unified 911and its superior communication tools as the recent dire weather conditions threatened lives and property during Habagat’s most challenging phase during the weekend and the start of the week.

Emergency response calls received by the National Command Center requested for help about rising flood waters that were about to engulf their homes, stranded vehicles in floods and residences already submerged in water.

Citizens in Parañaque, Las Piñas, Cavite, Bulacan and Batangas promptly received assistance, were rescued by boats or firetrucks, taken to evacuation centers or freed from their trapped homes and vehicles. The fastest response time recorded during the rescue operations was two minutes.

The next-gen public safety communication system was cited as an effective lifeline because it did not experience any downtime as Habagat raged on. Legacy networks would have typically collapsed.

Unbroken citizen lifelines kept emergency communications going, guaranteeing that citizens in distress could reach help during the torrential rains and rising waters.

"911 is always on heightened alert, more so during this type of disasters. All personnel leaves were canceled and responders were recalled to duty to ensure every command center is fully staffed, fully operational, and ready to take critical calls without delay," Executive Director Francis Fajardo of the National 911 office revealed.

“In the past, during typhoons and habagat, citizens encountered dead zones, line congestion and communication blackouts. Now there is guaranteed citizen access, zero downtime and immediate relay of emergency calls to first responders,” added Sean Valdez, Strategic Governance and Operations Manager, NGA 911 Philippines.

Prior to the activation of unified 911, first responders and rescue workers had to rely on guesswork and approximates, thus delaying action on emergency calls. With unified 911 powered by NGA technology and beefed up by Unified Platform for Communications and Dispatch (UPCAD) critical communication tools, real time caller data, location tracking and digital workflows aided by rugged mobile devices efficiently coordinate first responders.

“Unified 911 serves as the central intake and call relay engine for 911 emergency calls. It does not directly coordinate on the ground rescue units. The call relay process remains consistent regardless of the system used,” Valdez explained.

“As resilient as the Filipinos",  the 911 service works non-stop, noted Rob Llaguno, Country Head of NGA 911, the company that provides the cutting-edge technology to the unified 911 system.  Llaguno said the next step is to expand 911 accessibility beyond traditional voice calls.  Unified 911 will be accessible through social media (Meta) platforms for digital messaging.  Once the system is operating at full capacity, the Philippines will not just have the most dependable but also the most accessible emergency response system for its citizens and guests, Llaguno concluded.
