Trimmed down to roughly under a minute and layered with sensationalized text overlays—such as “Nagbabakasakali lang?” (Just taking chances?) and “Walang mga ebidensya pero nag-aakusa na!” (No evidence, yet already making accusations!)—the video was engineered to paint the prosecution as reckless, grasping at straws, and conducting a baseless “fishing expedition”. It even concluded with pointed sound effects designed to mock the opposing side.
To the average netizen scrolling through their feed, the impression was stark: a senior House prosecutor seemingly cornered, admitting to an empty, speculative crusade.
There was only one glaring problem: It wasn’t the whole truth.
Stripping Away the Context
Refusing to let a manipulated narrative dictate public perception, Congressman Diokno struck back by releasing the unedited, full-length exchange from the trial.
The complete footage completely reframed the conversation. Diokno had not been conceding that the prosecution was blindly guessing; rather, he was meticulously defining what a legal “fishing expedition” actually entails—explaining that such a label only applies when a party requests documents without cause.
