In a powerful display of community spirit, the halls of schools across the Philippines have been transformed into vibrant hubs of inspiration, thanks to the tireless efforts of volunteers from SM Supermalls. As part of a nationwide initiative for Brigada Eskwela 2026, SM employees swapped their typical workday gear for paintbrushes, brooms, and tools, uniting under the theme, “Bayanihan sa Paaralan: Nagkakaisa para sa Kaayusan at Kaalaman”.  

More Than Just Repairs: Building Dreams

For SM Supermalls, this initiative is an extension of their enduring commitment to youth empowerment and nation-building. By partnering with the Department of Education, SM Cares—the mall’s corporate social responsibility arm—sought to create learning environments that are not only cleaner and safer but deeply welcoming for both students and teachers.  

The impact of this collective effort is visible in every corner of the participating schools: 

Deep Cleaning: Volunteers performed general cleaning across classrooms, corridors, and school grounds to ensure a fresh start for the school year. 

Facility Restoration: Essential work included the repainting of walls and furniture, along with critical carpentry repairs on desks, chairs, doors, and windows. 

Environment Enhancement: Beyond the buildings, teams engaged in landscaping and garden care, while also facilitating school supply donations to support the learning process. 

The Philosophy of Service

The motivation behind this massive undertaking is rooted in the deep connection SM shares with the neighborhoods surrounding its malls. According to an SM Supermalls representative, the act of preparing these spaces is a powerful message to every student who walks through the doors: that their community believes in them.
